This is a documentary film that I worked on in the Peruvian Amazon, and it is premiering at the Santa Fe Film Center. I believe there is a small entrance fee, as this is a fundraiser for the Shipibo tribe, who are featured in the film.
I and Luis Guerra were the music and soundtrack advisors on the film, and we recorded the music of these shamans on location, in the Village of San Francisco de Yarina Cocha, on the banks of the Ucayali River, Upper Peruvian Amazon. The singing of these shamans is said to cure many things, both physical maladies as well as spiritual ones. Their songs are called “icaros” and these magical incantations are “received” by the shamans through the jungle biosphere. Every plant, tree, animal, bug, and elemental spirit in the Amazon has its own “icaro”, which the shamans then harness by singing the corresponding “icaro”,gucci purses; to affect an appropriate curing for the patient. I was deeply moved by my experience down there, both musically and spiritually, and it gave me a much better understanding of the very small world in which we all live. I think this movie will affect you in the same way, because it is about Spirit, Music, and the importance of living in balance with the environment. These are things we all need to remember.
